Christmas with me!!

My Christmas was really fun. I woke up at 5 o'clock in the morning to find my stocking filled with toys. I was really happy. I got a Kaijyu figure, a box of chocolate, and a pogo stick. When my parents woke up, I asked my dad to take me outside to play with my pogo stick. I had a great time.
Then my parents and me went to Fremont to look for a future house to buy. I fell asleep on the car. When I woke up, I was hungered to death. After what seemed like 2 hours, we finally found a fast food place for me to eat. When we continued. I was too sick to climb on the mountains, so we went home.
After a long day, we went home. My parents were exhausted, so they took a nap. While I played with my figures. By 6 o'clock, we ate dinner. Then at 11 o'clock, me and dad watched a movie together. And that is the end of my great day.

Surrealism with Tim&Moby

Surrealism, in a nutshell, is dealing with the relationship between the real world, the imaginary world, and the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is the part of your mind that is active while you are dreaming. That is why a lot of surreal art has a sort of a dream like quality.
In a surreal art, the people, object, or animal is drawn in a realistic way. But these things are put together in a unreal or impossible way. Surreal art wasn;t just one art, it was a whole movement. There are surrealistic books, poems, music, and even movies. It is a pretty long story about how surrealism started.
The first few decades, or ten years, of the twentieth century was a revolutionary period. Electricity, the telephone, the radio, and the automobile, all these inventions took off in the year 1900 to 1920. And with the world war one going around at the same time, the world have just like changed in a short time! There was also a revolution of ideas. Albert Einstein redefined our understanding of time and space. Sigmund Freud, the father of cytology, started studying people's dreams. He had some radical ideas about what is happening in people's minds. Freud had a big impact on the surrealists at that time. During that time, artists were struggling to find ideas to express the world around them. The surrealists were a big part of this revolution. Surrealism, which reached it's peak in the 1920s to 30s, rejected the everyday world and created a reality based on the artists mind. The idea was, if we can reproduce the thoughts and the activity of the subconscious, artists can create art that is even more truthful and interesting than the real world. It is kind of hard to understand, but Moby can make it easy with all you readers.
The famous picture of a man with a tie and a hat with a apple in front of his face, that is a surreal art by a surrealist named Rene Magritte. Another piece , called the persistence of memory, the one that you might know with the melting clocks, is painted in 1931 by the Spanish artist Salvador Dali. Dali is probably the most know surrealist of all time because of his paintings and his surreal attitude. Dali's point is that people in the real world believe that time is rigid, straight, and unflexable. But to him, time is not a rigid thing. It is soft, flexible, and organic. Almost like a piece of soft cheese.
What ever it is, surrealism is fun to study and try. Recopy Dali's painting and put Moby's face on where the watches are supposed to be!Ha!

Asthma with Tim&Moby

Asthma is a common condition of the lungs. People who has asthma can experience coughing, shortness of breath, tightness in the chest. But having a cough does not mean you have asthma. When we breath, air is sucked into narrower and narrower into hundreds of little sacs called alveoli. In here, blood if refreshed with oxygen and carbon dioxide is expelled.
But the air that we breath is not always as fresh as it could be. There is bunches of gunk in it like smoke, pollution, mold, pollen, pet dandruff, dust particles, the list goes on for ever with the mutating viruses!(See the swine flu entry for more info)To people with asthma, these gunk trigger an asthma attack. Attacks like this can also be triggered through exercise, food allergies, weather conditions, and even strong emotions. It just depend on the people.
During an asthma attack, the lung air ways gets irritated. When the cells in the air ways detects a trigger, it overreacts and spits out chemicals to make the mucus production increase, causing the airways to swell. The swelling and mucus makes the airways narrower and narrower that is hard to breath. That is why people with asthma keep their inhalers handy at all times. When an asthma attack happens, the medicine in the inhalers go inside the airways and reduce the airway swelling to make breathing easier. Checking your peek flow meter daily is good, too. Doctors are really good at diagnosing, and treating asthma. That is good because then people with asthma can now run around and do all sorts of stuff. There is even Olympic sports champions with asthma too to show you how treatable it is.
Even because the asthma is a common conditions to the lungs, it is still easily treatable. Have a nice day!

Swine Flu with Tim&Moby

Lately in this term of the century, there has been worries about a Swine Flu outbreak. An outbreak is when a flu spreads quickly across a population. But you know what, you cannot get swine flu from any properly cooked pork or pig product. Which means that it is okay to eat bacon. Now that the scientists are convinced that this is not a swine flu at all!
Like all viruses, the swine flu is created by the influenza virus. There are many strains, or version of the influenza virus. Each one is slightly different than the last. Some of the virus make us sick with a mixture of fever, coiffing, body acks, upset stomach, throwing up, and diarrhea that make us have a flu. Some viruses only affects birds giving them avian flu. Swine flu comes from viruses that only affect pigs. But sometimes, the flu that are usually for animals can mutate into viruses that harm us. Scientists now believe that the swine flu right now is made from combining 4 viruses that contain two swine, one avian, and one human. That is why scientists call the swine flu h1n1. Once a virus mutates, it could spread from infected pigs to farmers that made direct contacts with them. Then the virus start spreading around other people. The original case started in Mexico but it wasn't thought to be where h1n1 was created. What ever happened, it quickly spread across the world.
For whatever reasons, the h1n1 is pretty bad. But it cures pretty easily. Chock on bacon, Moby!

Laser with Tim&Moby

How do you make a laser? The word laser stands for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation. In modern days, you can find laser used everywhere.
A laser beam is a powerful beam of coherent light. In that phrase, it means that the light is traveling all in one direction. A laser light is created from a lasing medium, it can be solid, liquid, or even gas like. The atoms in the lasing medium is made into a excited form by two power cords, like electricity. After the atoms absorbed enough energy, the will have to release it in a photon, a single unit of energy. When an photon is released, it will bump into other atoms, causing them to also release another photon of the same pattern. Mirrors at both ends of the laser bounce the photons back and forth, back and forth. And then, you got a huge amount of coherent light inside the laser. One of the mirrors is only half silver, and that allows a hard, solid stream of light to pass through. And that is why a laser light is so special.
A light bulb sends different waves of light in all directions. Those lights, which we see as color, combine together to make a giant mass of white. Laser light is only one color, and always focused. They can be used for a lot, like playing music to communication to measuring distances and even to delicate medical procedures. Some lasers are even hot enough to cut through metal!Lasers are also used for a lot of thing you couldn't imagine! You can use them to make holograms. Doctors use lasers to treat eye problems by dong a thing called LASIK, grocery stores use them to scan bar codes, and you can even get to scare a cat! Because lasers are so cheap these days.
Lasers are sure fun to study. Check out Moby with a light saber!

Skiing with me!

Yesterday my family and I went to Boreal to ski. I was taking a beginner package and had to go to a lesson. On the lesson the teacher told us that you are supposed to ski without your ski poles. And we got to take the lift up the mountain.
The teacher told us to stretch your arms forward so you do not fall. He also told us to make a pizza form with your skis to stop. The teacher was very nice and helped us a lot. After showing us how to stop and how to stay balanced, he told us how to turn by making a nail shaped form with your skis and how to increase your speed by turning your ski into a straight-forward position.
After letting us down hill twice, he told us to increase in speed. Another boy and I slid down the mountain without out falling, while the other girls were rolling down the hills in snow balls! Then, at the end of the lesson, the teacher gave us some thank you cards and some coupons the next time we come. I had a lot of fun!
So, after reading, you might wonder : What is this passage about? Well, I will answer that question by telling you this: This passage is part journal, part lesson. The lesson I have taught you is how to ski. Well, happy skiing.

digital etiquitte ( Today's Video)

Digital Etiquette with Tim&Moby

What is digital etiquette? Will digital etiquette, or netiquette, is a series of rules about how to behave online. Like saying sorry if you bump into someone in the digital world or saying sorry if you accidentally gave someone a message like you stink or something. As a matter of fact, it is a lot like the real life etiquette. Digital etiquette is very important in the digital world because you should follow it in digital games, email, blogs, and even chat spots.
BUT, some people might go out of control the minute they jump online. They can spread bad messages on social sites called flames. If the social site is really popular and a lot of people see it, It might become a full on flamewars and every one starts to give out bad messages that they would never say in person. To make matters worse, some people just go around the internet looking to start flamewars. We call these people trolls. Pretty good name for them. Hun? But I personally doesn't think that the troll become a meaner person, they just forget the rules.
On the internet, it is pretty easy to stay anonymous, or unidentified. Having a secret identity can make people really brave. If you tell someone that he is a sucker or something, And he sees your account and the list your name as a icon or a silly thing, like 6u347583757628267**(BLEEP), the victim might forget that he is dealing with a real person. Just like in real life, treat others the way you wanted to be treated on the internet.
BUT, digital etiquette isn't just about being nice, but also communicating clearly. To communicate clearly, please stay to the point and make things easy to read. Like: Hi ms. Enrico. W b l8 for class 2day. See u l8r! From, Guy. See? Can you identify that? Here is the key:Hi Miss.Enrico, Will be late for class today. See you later! That is why you should talk clearly. And please, don't write in all capitals. It will look like you are shouting.
Remember that the internet has a lot of creeps too. But have fun.

Fossils with Tim&Moby

Moby dug out a bone and thought that it was a fossil, but it belonged to the dog next door. But what makes a fossil, a fossil? A fossil is the remains of an animal. Fossils are usually millions of years old and found deep underground. But, not all living organisms gets fossilized after it dies, in fact, it is a really rare thing that happens. Fossilization happens when something that died got a quick burial or something.
A body fossil is the part of the original organism that has been preserved, like a beetle, trapped in tree sap. Over time, the sap hardens and now, it is a body fossil! Body fossils are found where bacteria and other things that break down organisms can't thrive. Body fossil can also form when a animal dies in the dessert or gets frozen in ice or trapped in a tar pit. Body fossils are the rarest fossil kinds of all.
A trace fossil is the most common type of fossils. It can be footprints of an animal, nests, bite marks, and even animal poop.
Another type of fossil forms when an animal dies and is immediately covered by earth, mud, or sand. The mud covering turns into solid rock after many years. the hardest parts of an animal like it's bones and shells, don't decay for thousands of years. When they do, they left a mold in the rock called a mold fossil, a hollow print. Most of of the time, water will bobble up the mold, filling it with minerals. Over time, the minerals turn into rock, leaving a cast fossil. The cast fossil looks exactly like the original bone or shell.
Also, there is fossil fuels. All the oil, gas, and coal on earth are formed by remains of plants and animals. For example, when dinosaurs ruled the earth, the earth is covered by tropical swamps. When the trees that lived with the swamp died, it sank to the bottom of the swamp. In the swamp, they slowly decompose and everything form into a soggy, spongy thing called peat. Eventually, the peat gets buried under layers and layers of rock. The heat and pressure takes place and after millions of years, peat turn into coal!
We can study a lot about fossils. By looking at the fossil record, we can learn about the entire history of life on earth! The fossil record is just a fancy saying for the total we know about fossils.
Fossils are great things to study. See if you can find the 11th fossil of Tyrannosaurus Rex!

Social networking with Tim&Moby

Moby is having his birthday party, but how can he get people to know? Use social networking. Social networking is like a chat place where you can connect to lots of people that you know. You can find friends on social sites by finding people who has the same hobby as you, or even is your friend from school. Some of the social sites that you might know about is : Makefriends.com, or slothchat.com/chat. but for whatever reasons, you should always let your parents know that you are registering a chat website.
The first thing you do on a chat website is to create a profile of yourself. And now, you can chat! Some people like to put images on their profiles, but don;t show anything you don't want to let anyone else know. If a stranger talks to you or tries to chat, please deny it.
Chatting on the internet is really fun, and Moby's party is saved!

Bullying with Tim&Moby

You have probably read the passage where I talk about cyber bullying, well, this is almost being the same. Bullies are mean people who thinks that they have some kind of hold over you. The things that bullies do are: name calling, leaving you out on things, force you to do something you don't want, or physically hurting you. The best thing to do is to tell an adult. What you can do is to walk away, get with friends, and even tell your friends about you getting hurt. Some bullies don't even think your feelings are changing at all! So now, the last part of the passage, don't do something bad to another person for no reason. But it is good when you do things good to others with no reason. Now that makes you a better person!

Internet with Tim&Moby

The internet is actually a network of connected computers. It has 2 or more computers connected to communicate with each other. Nobody was sure when internet started because a lot of people were working on the same idea at the same time period. Most people thinks that what started it all was something called DARPA. That is a research group for the military of defense. In the late 1960s, scientists at DARPA created ARPANET, which allowed 4 California universities to share information with each other. In the 1970s, the ARPANET grew and grew and finally in the 1980s, became part of the internet we use today.
When you log on to the internet, you becomes part of the largest network on earth! Every computer on the internet is either a client, or server. A server is a computer that serves other computers like selling toys or having videos. Brainpop is a server. You are now using a server computer to see my blog. It makes a way for you to move to the serving computer. But, a client computer does not connect directly to a server. Client computers does not really know how to find a server, so it travels through the computers in between the client and server to relay requests.
When you try to go to a server, you have to first type in the URL on the address bar. URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. Every web page on the internet has it's own URL. When you hit enter on your keyboard, you are telling your ISP that you want to see the server's homepage. ISP stands for Internet Service Provider. ISP is a server that allows you to get on to the internet. Most of them charges you a monthly fee for the service they provide. Then the ISP sends your request to it's DNS, or Domain Name Server. The DNS is like a phone book for computers. The DNS searches for the address name you provided. Once the name is found, The DNS will know the web page's IP address. IP stands for Internet Protocol, which is a serious of numbers that computers use to communicate with each other. In stead of regular address like street names and houses, the IP address look something like this:65.15620.543.It may look like total nonsense to us but it tells the computer exactly where to the web page. Once your request is found, the DNS sends the request to your ISP's backbone. It is a high speed line connected to all the computers. Your request bounce from one computer to another until it reaches the page you want to find. When the server page receives your request it sends the link back along a similar route. Finally, you are looking at the page you wanted.
All this happens in a matter of seconds!! Now it seems that the internet is pretty interesting, is it?

Thanks giving with Tim&Moby

Moby made a terrible soup for thanks giving, but what started thanks giving? You might know the pilgrims. The pilgrims are people who are from England that seek freedom and rights for people. They set out on a ship named the Mayflower and landed in Plymouth Massachusetts in 1620.
But, before the pilgrims, an American Indian tribe named the Wampanoag lived in Massachusetts, and Rhode island. When the pilgrims arrived, they were not ready for the American wilderness. The pilgrims had a very bad time. Their seed won't grow, they can't hunt nor fish and many pilgrims died within the first year.
Then, one English speaking Wampanoag named Squanto decided to help the pilgrims. His tribe taught the pilgrims how to hunt, fish, take medical plant, grow corn, and build houses. The pilgrims were very happy and they decided to celebrate with a feast in November 27th. The pilgrim leader asked the Indian leader to come and join the feast. But the pilgrims were not ready for the 90 Indians that came to the feast, so the Indian leader told his men to hunt so everyone can eat. Together, the pilgrims and the Wampanoag set up a treaty and the Indians allowed the pilgrims to build their first town in Plymouth. It was a very wonderful time for two kinds of people to sit together in one dinner table. But sadly, the friendship did not last.
More settlers came and forced the Indians out of their homes. Squanto was also killed. It was a very cruel thing. But some Wampanoag is still living in Massachusetts today. Well, happy thanks giving!

Sponges with Tim&Moby

Moby found some salt water sponges while he was skinny dipping yesterday. But the truth is that sponges can survive in salt water and fresh water. Sponges belong to a animal kingdom called invertebrates, that is animals without bones. Crabs and centipedes are also invertebrates. The real name for a sponge is called Porifera phylum, weird name Hun. Sponges are very simply structured animals. Adult sponges are sessile, which means they stay in one place for their entire life. A sponge's body is made of cells in two layers. Also, sponges are filter feeders, which means they collect food from water that pass through them. Small amounts of oxygen and food are carried into the central of the sponge where little organs called flagella keep water moving in and out of the sponge. Other specialized cells digest food, spread it across the body, and let the water carry out the waste. Human cells does the same thing. Fishes and other predators will not eat sponges sometimes because some have hard, spike like spicules and a tough spongion skeleton. That is right, when sponges die, people use them as bath sponges. Sponges offspring in two ways. The asexual way is to have a little sponge grow on the side of an adult and let the current carry it off and then anchor itself in a new place. New sponges can grow from pieces of a broken sponge, that's like what a starfish does. The other way is to produce two gametes, gametes are reproductive cells. The sponge push out the two gametes at the same time. over time, the gametes merge together and that begins a fertilization. That is also like plants making pollination. Sponges are some interesting animals.

Giant squids with Tim&Moby

A giant squid is a mysterious animal that lives 1,000 feet under the sea. They are pretty hard to find. A giant squid is just a 16meter version of it's cousin, the regular squid, which is less than 1meter. Like all squids, the giant squid belong to a family of animals called the mollusks, a family of boneless animals like snails, squids, octopuses, clams, and oysters. The giant squid has some of the largest eyes in the animal kingdom, as big as a football. When sailors first explored the sea, they came back with crazy tales. One of them was that some giant tentacles reach out of the water and pull your ship down below the waves. Many people believed is the monster Scylla from the Greek mythology. Others believe is the Kraken from the of the Norwegian legends. They might all be based on the giant squid. Like all mollusks, the giant squid has a mantle, or a bulk of skin that protects the weaker parts of the squid's body. To support the mantle, it rely on a organ that stays forever called a gladius, a blade like structure. Giant squids also have the muscular feet common to all mollusks, except it is reduced now to two long tentacles and eight shorter tentacles. The giant squid uses the tentacles to catch prey like large fish or other squids. The tentacles are all covered in hundreds of suction cups, each with a ring of teeth around the edges. The giant squid use the tentacles to move the prey toward the biting range of the squid's beak-like mouth. After chomping off some part of the prey, food are passed through the radula, a hard tongue that many mollusks all have. Then the food is transported into the esophagus. But no worries, the giant squid don't usually eat people or robots. They do have one enemy, that is the sperm whale. The scientists found squid beaks in the whale's stomach and suction cups marks on their bodies. Now scientists follow the whales on their hunting trips to see the giant squids. Giant squids are some interesting animals! Moby is scared.

Dinosaurs with Tim&Moby

The word dinosaurs means terrible lizards. They existed 165million years ago. They died out 5million years ago, way before humans came. So some prehistoric movies might be false. You can find dinosaurs as big as 30meters or as small as a chicken. You can also find dinosaurs with scaly skin, plated skin, horns, and even frills. They can be in all shapes and sizes. Some walk on four legs and some on two. They might live on land, in the sea, and some can even fly! Dinosaurs are very interesting creatures. We can study a lot about them by using the fossils that we found today like Dino skeletons, foot print fossils, droppings, and eggs. Some dinosaurs can be fast, some can be slow. Dinosaurs ruled the earth about 160 million years and was called the most successful animals that ever lived. But 160 million years later, they bite the dust. Most scientists believe a large meteorite hit the earth and killed the dinosaurs. But for whatever reason, dinosaurs are still always fun things to study, just for fun. But the dinosaurs have not died out completely, scientists think some small meat eating dinosaurs have evolved into birds. Dinosaurs are some interesting creatures. Who wants to play fool's ball?

Columbus day with Tim and Moby

Christopher Columbus was a business man who sponsored a lot of trades and made a pretty good living. But then, he wanted to get richer by finding a closer trading route to Asia. Columbus's mistake was that he thought the earth was too small. He thought that Spain and Japan was less than 4,000 km apart. But the truth was more than 19,000 km apart.Anyway, the queen and king of Spain sponsored his journey.once he landed at the Caribbean Sea, he encountered a native American tribe called the Arawak. Though Columbus refer them as Indians since he is sure he landed in India. The Arawak was kind to Columbus, But Columbus did not return their kindness. Many was sold as slaves. Columbus forced the Arawak to bring him gold, is they did not bring enough, death. Columbus was captured and brought back to Spain and faced criminal charges. But the king and queen let him go and sponsored his next trip. People say what Columbus did was cruel. But his accomplishments totally changed the course of history!! So is a bit complicated. Online safety with Tim&Moby

People asks"is it safe on the internet?". Will, no. There's all sorts of creeps out there in the internet. Moby has made up some good rules for internet safety. 1) Keep your identity a secret. When you are on an anonymous website, stay anonymous. If you don't, you might encounter an identity thief. Always ask a parent. 2)Don't talk to stranger. If you see an email address you don't recognize, do not reply.3) keep your password safe, even from your best friend. 4) Tell some one. If you are bullied by an email, tell your teacher. It is a teacher's job to protect you.5)Be nice. Don't make fun of other people. The internet is hard to understand, but with the help of an adult, the internet can be fun and interesting. You should play kung-Fu cowboys!!!

Digital Animation with Tim&Moby

Digital animation is what people use to make the Brainpop movies. There are three kinds of animations: 2D and 3D. 2D and 3D each mean 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional. Brainpop uses good old 2D. They use a system called Flash. People making movies always have a window on their computer called stage. You can work on flash on a stage. To work the stage people use tweening. They make a start point and an end point and puts on still images called keyframes. Then the computer decides how the images should move. Lastly people upload the movie into the all-powerful Brainpop server. Making a movie can be complicated.

Cyberbullying with Tim&Moby

Bullies can attack even from the internet!! People called cyberbullies are people who send you mean messages and hurts your feeling. It was said in news that hundreds of teenagers die from killing themselves because of cyberbullying. The best way to stop cyberbullies to bother you is to stop them from sending you another message. You can do this by block their contact. If that doesn't work, you can report on users that bully you. Cyberbullies can bully you with email, blogging, leaving anonymous messages, or by sending you text messages. Do not fight back. Cyberbullies like you to fight back so they can humiliate you more. Do not become a cyberbully either. If someone bullies you, tell an adult immediately.

Copyright with Tim&Moby

A copyright is a protection to original works like a painting or a photo or a book or anything. The public must get the permission of the copyright owner to copy the work. The owner of the copyright also has the power to give the right to someone else. But you can only hold the copyright for a few years, and then the work become part of the public domain. A public domain is where your work can be used or copied by anyone. The internet also gives you protection. Even the U.S Congress talks about copyrights. But you can't copyright an idea. If some one copies your work without permission, he is infringement. If you are infringement, you can be sued. So if you have an creative idea, copyright it!!!
